Moby is specifically designed for ROV (Remotely Operated Vehicle) applications and has a holding force of up to 3200 kg.

The basic configuration includes a main handle intended for a Rigmaster, along with a release mechanism consisting of a screw and an interface for a 7-function (or T4) arm. This setup is primarily intended to serve as an anchoring point for the ROV to stay in position.

However, Moby is modular, meaning that the ROV interfaces can be replaced by other designs, and basically anything can be mounted on the top plate.

Moby is made of stainless steel and has no internal moving parts sensitive to seawater. This means simplicity and peace of mind – a robust, lightweight design without the need for any complicated conservation procedures, oil-filled housings and pressure compensators, and it’s definitely not a single-use magnet.

Moby has been designed so that it can be applied on curved surfaces with a diameter down to 600 mm. Finally, the weight is less than 25 kg.

Net weight24.5 kg | 54.0 lbs

Yes, our magnets can be shipped by air. They conform to IATA’s packing instruction 953 and are not classified as dangerous goods when shipped in their original tool cases. According to regulations, if the maximum field strength at a distance of 2.1 meters (7 feet) is less than 0.159 A/m (0.002 gauss) or there is no significant compass deflection (less than 0.5 degrees), the item is not considered magnetised material.

Each magnet is factory-tested to ensure the holding force exceeds the rating. This is measured by pulling the magnet perpendicularly from a 30mm thick, clean mild steel plate. Out in the field, the holding force can be influenced by factors such as steel thickness, steel quality, and any gap between the magnet and the steel caused by rust or uneven surfaces.

The lateral holding force varies depending on the friction coefficient between the magnet and the surface, which can be affected by paint, marine growth, corrosion, and whether the surface is wet or dry. Generally, you can estimate 20-30% of the normal holding force rating.

Our magnets will not demagnetise as long as they are kept below 100 degrees Celsius (212 Fahrenheit) and used according to the instructions in the user manual.

Yes, we offer custom designs. We manage all aspects of design and magnetic calculations and have previously delivered tailored magnets. Send us an email with your specifications, and we will get started on it.

The magnetic field of our magnets is not strong enough to pose a health hazard. Field strength, measured in Gauss or Tesla (1 Tesla = 10,000 Gauss), is much lower near our magnets compared to an MR scanner, which produces several Tesla. You can find more details in our safety instructions.

No, our diving magnets are designed for easy removal with one hand using the release lever. Even the strongest diving magnet, Willy 800 kg, requires only about 30 kg of pull force to release it momentarily. Once the lever is slightly turned, the magnet is easy to remove.

Generally, only equipment that relies on magnetism, such as magnetic compasses, can be affected by strong magnetic fields. Smartphones, which contain compasses, should be kept away from the magnets. Detailed safety instructions are available for more information. When a magnet is attached to a steel surface, the magnetic field is concentrated in the steel, ensuring the safety of nearby equipment.
